Make your differences an inexhaustible resource.
William Kriegel had an exceptional professional career, both because of his success and because he was incapable of learning at school. He admitted this singularity and learned to make it a resource. His energy start-up has become one of the first independent electricity producers in the United States. From a loss-making ranch on the borders of the Rockies, he created a model of organic breeding and natural exploitation, profitable and respectful of animal welfare. From the cautious discovery of the gurus of the “new horsemanship”, he has only kept this formidable approach to the human/horse relationship. He thus designed, at Haras de la Cense, the French model of ethological riding.
At My Pace tells the adventures of William Kriegel. Whether they are in the saddle, at the head of his projects or pursuing his thoughts on management, strategy, behavior in the face of power, risk, money. The walk takes us back to the carefree thirst for life of the 70s, the American dream of the following decade, the cynicism and financial changes of the 90s. We thus see a pragmatic ethic take shape over the years, a singular way of lead dreams and teams.
Tasty anecdotes and portraits give this autobiography the density of an inspiring conference.

French entrepreneur, William Kriegel develops large-scale industrial projects in the electricity production sector in the United States.
A rider since his childhood, he approached the American pioneers of the horse riding dite “ethological” at the end of the 90s. He very quickly adhered to the idea according to which understanding the horse was a guarantee of success in establishing a relationship between Man and horse while respecting its nature and its well-being.
In 1995, he created the Cense, a place dedicated to nature and respect for animals, to make learning about this special bond between man and horse a reality, thanks to an innovative educational approach: the La Cense Method.
In 2000, with Dillon State University (Montana), William Kriegel initiated the creation of the first Bachelor of Science Natural Horsemanship in the United States and created the Montana Center for Horsemanship, a foundation dedicated to the transmission of know-how in horse education.
In 2018, he created the La Cense endowment fund.

This is a book by a Manager, William Kriegel, first in real estate, then in energy and finally in stud farm management. In this book, he recounts his life as a manager and the major events that affected him, such as his illness at the age of 11. He also recounts his youthful adventures and his great managerial adventure. What is interesting in his development of horizontal management is that we find above all the bases of respect in the work, which leads me to compare this with Management 3.0 developed by Jurgen Appelo. However, we must also understand that this self-made man is from the generation of the 30 glorious years and that his managerial adventure could certainly not be repeated today. However, it clearly shows that a manager who knows how to understand the people he works with can go a long way. A good read for any manager.

William Kriegel's story is fast, clear, rhythmic and exciting: we understand everything, we learn a lot, the chapters come and go, it's a film script, we would like the images that would make us dream, and yet they are never lacking not: they are there between each line, you just have to listen to the tone, sometimes instructive, factual, incisive, sometimes fierce, surprised, occasionally tender, not particularly indulgent, in the first person, but without diktat, and above all: “no guru inside!”

I bought it for the horse and everything that La Cense and Kriegel brought to our discipline. I discovered an incredible life there. I devoured this book in two evenings! Without going overboard and even if he is proud of his career, the author fascinates with his determination: he is the autodidact who makes his own rules of life, and it works. Travel, business, bad luck (the chapter on chess is great), good intuitions and bad character, the character is fascinating even if he remains mysterious because the whole is modest. I recommend it to lovers of (ethological) horse riding, fans of the USA and travel, business students and all those who want to start their business and who will find more of a philosophy and original values than a guide in 10 points. With a message: if you do not have the same intellectual or financial means as your partners and your adversaries, do not go onto their territory, draw your own where they will have a hard time overtaking you. A real favorite.

I like this story which allows everyone to realize that nothing is written and that it is up to each person to analyze their strengths and use them in a winning spirit, well done for sharing this adventure with us.
